POPULAR ANIME TO ADD TO YOUR WATCH LIST

Anime is gaining more and more fans around the world. Below is a list of some of the popular anime to get started on as a beginner to anime.


1. Naruto


Naruto is an anime based on the fictional world of ninjas and centers around the journey of the character Naruto in becoming one of the greatest Ninjas of all times. The ninja world consists of 5 villages specializing in different ninja forms, techniques or jutsus. The 5 ninja villages are;

  1. The village hidden in the leaf located in the Land of Fire,

  2. The village hidden in the sand located in the Land of Wind,

  3. The village hidden in the mist located in the Land of Water,

  4. The village hidden in the stones located in the Land of Earth,

  5. The village hidden in the clouds located in the Land of Lightning.

At the early part of the show the village hidden in the leaf has more focus due to Naruto being from the village. Naruto's biggest goal is to become the head of the village (Hokage). Naruto is broken into 2 parts as Naruto where it focuses on the childhood of Naruto and Naruto: Shippuden where it focuses more on the teenage and adult years of Naruto.

2. Dragon Ball


Dragon Ball is set in a world where Earth is known as Dragon world and its inhabitants are known as Earthlings. The story follows the main protagonist Son Goku’s adventures in finding the seven Dragon balls that, put together, could summon the wish granting dragon.


The show expands not only on Earth but throughout multiple planets and universes with different beings. Throughout the story new characters will be introduced including many villains who as the show progresses even become allies of Son Goku.


The show may seem confusing at times especially if you miss a couple of episodes so make sure to watch all the episodes without skipping. The show will progress onto Dragon Ball Z, Dragon Ball GT, Dragon Ball Z Kai and Dragon Ball Super as well.

3. Avatar: The Last Airbender


Avatar is a story where the world is divided into four nations: Earth, Water, Fire and Air. Some people from each nation have the ability to bend and manipulate the elements from their nation. Avatar is the one who can bend all four of the elements and keep harmony between the nations.


However, before the next Avatar is trained the power hungry fire nation attacked. The next Avatar was supposed to be from the nation of Air therefore the fire nation wiped out every single Air bender in existence except one.


Aang, the protagonist of the story who was overwhelmed by his responsibilities, froze himself inside an iceberg with his powers before he could learn to bend the other elements. Over a century later, he is discovered by two siblings from the Southern water tribe. This anime will unfold the story of Aang’s journey to learn how to bend all the elements and become the next Avatar to bring peace to all nations.

4. Attack on Titan


Attack on Titan shortened AOT is based on a fictional dystopian world where the human kind has vastly decreased due to the rise of titans. They are humanoid thoughtless giants that feed on humans.


The main character of the show is Eren alongside Mikasa, Armin, Levi, and Jean. Viewers will be at loggerheads to define whether Eren is the protagonist or the antagonist as the show progresses.


The story starts in Paradis island where the surviving citizens of Eldia live. As the story moves forward the power struggle between the two sides Eldia and Marley takes place. It is safe to say that AOT is an anime that will deliver plot twist after plot twist that will keep viewers at the edge of their seat.

5. Jujutsu Kaisen


Jujutsu Kaisen, unlike other anime, is not set in an alternative universe but in the same world as us with the plot revolving around cursed energy that escapes from negative emotions of humans. These negative emotions ultimately take the shape of fearsome monsters that cause harm to human kind.


In order to get rid of these spirits the school Jujutsu Kaisen trains Sorcerers who can control the cursed energy in them unlike humans. The main protagonist of the story is Yuji Itadori who possesses superhuman strength who ends up consuming a finger of a dark cursed spirit known as Tsukuna in order to save his friends.


Itadori, who can retain the power of the cursed spirit, is taken to the Jujutsu school by the powerful sorcerer Gojo in order to train him to catch Tsukuna. Jujutsu Kaisen makes reference and pays tribute to a lot of previous anime. Season one may seem a lot light-hearted and filled with humor but the seasons to come will turn darker as it goes.
